Initial NEA research

The origins of the Beggars group stems from the Beggars Banquet record shops in london whom opened first in 1973. Success was quickly earned through one of the first signings, Gary Numan. The beggars group is one of the largest independent groups of labels in the world, they allow their artists the time to develop affording them freedom and support and releasing the best music possible.

Information from The Beggars website:

Chaired by founder Martin Mills, Beggars Group now comprises many of the world’s most respected independent labels and is home to 4AD, Matador Records, Rough Trade, XL Recordings and Young, in addition to a growing publishing wing (Beggars Music) and a successful catalog imprint (Beggars Arkive).

The rough trade page is riddled with unique images and unconventional typography for a music site. It consists of unique and abstract images from indie artists (independent). I’m using this for some inspiration not only for my website but also for some of my shots in the video due to its fitting to my brief and the less mainstream aspects it takes on.

Artists that they have signed:

Adele, ANOHNI, Arca, Jarvis Cocker, FKA twigs, Grimes, Interpol, M.I.A., The National, Queens Of The Stone Age, Radiohead, Sampha, Kamasi Washington, The xx and more.

Indie rock narrative songs I’m considering:

Radiohead : Creep

Sufjan stevens: John Wayne Gacy jr

Alt-j: Breezeblocks

Tame Impala: The less I know the better

The police: Every breath you take, Roxanne

The Narrative: Chasing a feeling
